BEST-WRITTEN JOURNALISTIC PIECE IN THE LAST WEEK OR SO:
posted by Eric |
The most arresting, though probably only 2nd best written or argued, piece has to be The New York Press hard-copy edition’s cover story on Jewish Pornography. Its funny, non-judgemental, written in a warm, lively style, and considers all the angles. At the end it makes a somewhat, abrupt tonal shift from the more light-hearted approach of the bulk of the article to a serious discussion of the disturbing phenomenon of "Holocaust Pornography" (which, even more disturbingly, is produced and consumed almost entirely in the state of Israel), and concludes with a complete (and literal) condemnation of every facet of this evil, refreshing for its moral clarity.
The only thing that I wish writer Joshua Cohen had gone into further was the depressing extent to which "Holocaust Pornography" is also a part of more mainstream popular culture. What is the 70's art house "classic" The Night Porter if not "Holocaust Art Pornography"?
